To stay or not to stay… in my comfort zone.
The older I get the more important I realize it is to crawl out of my comfort zone. And sometimes by the prompting from the Holy Spirit I feel it to be more of a, Him yanking me by my ankles from under the comfort of my duvet. Nonetheless, I believe it’s important because in a lot of ways you can’t live a healthy life without leaving your ‘zone’.
Without leaving your comfort zone you may not give that struggling mama at the fast food restaurant the compliment she needs to make it through the rest of the day (or meal) because you don’t know exactly what to say. You may not help the stranger in need in the grocery store parking lot because you don’t want them to think you’re some weirdo getting in their business. You may not share the gospel to your friend because you fear that they’ll reject your beliefs.
For the longest time I would not post anything about my beliefs in God on my person Facebook page because I had friends from high school who ‘knew the real me’. By letting the fear of being made out to be a phony I was quenching the work of the Holy Spirit and depriving my unbelieving friends of the opportunity to read about the gospel. By the way, if you’re a born again Christian you are renewed! You’ve been forgiven by Christ and all those things in the past don’t matter anymore. Don’t let that dictate the here and now.
As a mother, I’m always encouraging my children to step out of their comfort zones. Knowing my own struggle in the past with fear and now knowing the freedom and confidence that comes with not being afraid to fail or look silly is something I want them to experience. So, when we see the kid at the playground by themselves I’ll encourage one of my kids to go ask if they’d like to join in a game of tag. When we see the new kid in Sunday school I encourage them to introduce themselves.
There’s so many ways to push yourself out of your comfort zone. And from what I’ve experienced you can also bless others in the process.
What are some ways you’ve left your comfort zone lately?
