What must I do to be saved?

A simple, life-changing decision.

Salvation through faith in Jesus Christ can be intimidating to some, and feel unreachable to others. Some have never heard the gospel while others just simply don’t want to because they love their sin and believe Christianity is stiff and cold. Some don’t believe they’re good enough to be saved (no one is) or that they need to clean up before they can come to Christ. These are lies from Satan (our adversary) to bind the people of this world to the world.

In this blog post I hope to break down what the gospel of Jesus Christ is and what salvation means and how ANYONE can obtain it.

The Good News

The word gospel simply means good news. So the Gospel of Jesus Christ means the good news of Jesus Christ. And that’s exactly what it is good news! So let’s start at the beginning.

God created the world and everything in it in six days and on the seventh he rested from His work and saw that it was good. On the sixth day God created man from the dust of the earth and breathed life into him.

Genesis 1:26-27 says, “And God said, let us make man in our image, after our likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female created he them.”

God set the man and woman he had created in the garden of Eden where they would have everything they needed, they would tend the garden and care for the animals there. They had dominion over this beautifully, peaceful place with only one rule.. that they would not eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. In the garden they literally walked with God and talked to him face to face with Him.

While their lives were so wonderful in the garden there was an adversary lurking about seeking to destroy Gods beautiful creation. One day, in the form of a serpent, Satan tempted the woman God had made with the fruit from the forbidden tree and the woman, Eve, fell prey to Satans scheme by eating the fruit of the tree. And so sin entered the world.

Everyone (you and I included) since that time that has been born into this world is born with a sin nature. Because of that innate sin nature that we’ve all been born into we no longer are born with the ability to have a connection with God like Adam and Eve had in the garden. God is holy (set apart) and perfect (unblemished) and there’s no way for us to come together again unless we become perfect and live a life without sin.

Thankfully God is also all knowing or omniscient. Before he even formed the world he knew that sin would enter it by way of the deception of Satan to Eve and because he knew that and because we are created for his pleasure and his glory he had a plan laid out for us to be reunited to him. This came by way of Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ, the Son of God, part of the holy trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) came in the form of a man to earth over 2,000 years ago. He was fully man and fully God and therefore was capable and did live a perfect, sinless life. Jesus lived in the Middle East during his time on earth and preformed many miracles and taught many people. His life on earth gained him many followers as well as many enemies. Some people were able to see that this was the long awaited Savior, the one that the Israelite prophets told of, and others were ultimately jealous of the attention and authority that Jesus held. Because of their hardened, sinful hearts they decided to pursue Jesus to have him crucified. While crucifixion was commonplace in that time and place what was special about Jesus’s death was what it accomplished.

When Jesus came down from his heavenly throne down to earth in the form of a baby in Bethlehem there was set in motion the plan of salvation for the world and all who dwell in it. Jesus knew what would his fate would be and that he would have to sacrifice himself as a perfect, sinless, spotless man in place of you and I. Because we’re sinners by nature it’s impossible for us to be perfect but for Jesus it was in his Godly nature. When he was crucified the sins of the world were laid on him and he was offered as a holy sacrifice in our place. He died and rose again three days later, defeating death and once again restoring the bond between God and mankind.

Doing your part

The Bible tells us that no man can come to the Father but through faith in Jesus Christ. There’s absolutely no other way. So with the Gospel told in this post there’s one thing left to do.. decide for yourself. You can repent or confess that you are a sinner in need of a savior and then believe and accept the gift that is freely by Christ to anyone who will come to this acknowledgment. Or you can deny the gospel of Jesus Christ and spend eternity separated from the Light.

How wonderful it would be for everyone to come to the acknowledgment of Christ and be saved through His blood.
