Tough Times
Unless you live under a rock you’ve heard or maybe have witnessed the assassination of Charlie Kirk. A couple of days before his tragic death, there was a stabbing on a Charlotte, N.C. light rail caught on camera as well. The week before that there was a shooting during a school mass at a Catholic Church. Before, during, and after these events there have been plenty of other tragedies happening all around us. Maybe you’ve been personally touched by a tragic experience.
Something is different about the Charlie Kirk assassination and I’m not the only one to express that feeling. I didn’t follow Charlie’s work super closely but I admired how he could have open, respectful debates with people with polar opposite views. I’m encouraged by the surge in courage that has risen up in the hearts and minds of young people in America after his death. However, there’s too much silence at the same time.
Right now, in America, there’s so much uncertainty and I think the younger generations are looking for clarity from our elders. While there are many conversations happening online, I don’t see a clear direction coming from anyone. I know Jesus tells us to love our neighbors as ourselves, to to bless those who persecute, and to pray for our enemies. In practical ways moving forward it would be helpful to know what that means.
I wonder what will happen to the Christians who are encouraged to go out and continue Charlie’s legacy by spreading the gospel, having good faith debates, and loving those who hate God.
Tough Mother
If you watched the video that Charlie’s wife, Erika, put out to the nation I hope you were moved by her words. I hope you were encouraged, saddened, and activated.
Like I said, I didn’t closely follow Charlie Kirk but this I know this is a moment in history that Americans won’t foget. I have young children who need guidance during this time and encouragment for the future America that they’re going to inherit soon. How can I make a difference even if only in my own home?
Washing my children in the word of God, teaching them to be bold in thier faith and know what/why they believe, have good debates at home. I can show them how to love our neighbors and those we come in contact with who have different points of view and be discerning enough to know when to try to convince them otherwise.
I remember walking to my next class in high school when an upper-classman came up to me with a clip board and asked if I was pro-life or pro-choice. I honestly didn’t even know what that meant but I said pro-choice because shouldn’t every one have a choice? As an adult, I’m not afraid to say that I 100% pro-life. At the moment of conception, when egg and sperm meet, a new life has begun. It is NEVER ok, under any circumstance, to take away the life of another human being. If that ruffles your feathers and you say you’re a Christian I’d encourage you to do some research and look into both sides of the isle.
I want to have that fire about every aspect of my life and faith. I want to be bold for the gospel and bold for truth. I want to give encouragement to those around me to be bold as well.
That’s my prayer. What’s yours?
